Climate Change workshop Series

Mobilizing through social media
To engage the Black communities of the GTA in climate preparedness, a comprehensive social media and outreach strategy was developed. This strategy focused on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, using visually engaging posts to highlight the critical climate issues faced by these communities.
Introduction posts launched the project, awareness posts detailed the impacts of climate change, and call-to-action posts urged community members to register, emphasizing the crucial role of their participation.
Personalized email campaigns
The email campaign targeted community members directly, with personalized invitations underscoring the importance of their participation. These emails highlighted the unique opportunity for the Black community to influence climate policy and prepare their neighborhoods for climate challenges.
Visuals that inspire action
Visual assets were essential to the outreach strategy, portraying Black people and families to emphasize themes of family, community, and solidarity. The illustrations were designed to resonate deeply with the Black communities in the GTA, aiming to galvanize them by fostering a sense of unity and urgency. By creating a powerful visual narrative that highlighted the collective nature of the climate challenges faced, we made the issue of climate preparedness relatable and compelling. This approach encouraged more community members to participate in the workshops.
Achievements and gratitude
In the end, we successfully filled over 95% of the seats across the three workshops. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Chris Wilson, the regional director, for his invaluable support in making this initiative a success.
